As an instructor with Konkan Explorers, my day starts early. The mornings in Goa are serene, with the river glistening under the first light. It’s peaceful, but our work is just beginning.
At Konkan Explorers, safety is our utmost priority. Each trip whether it’s a cruise or a kayaking adventure or open water swimming, it is planned with the well-being of our guests in mind. Our team goes through extensive training, and even on our non-working days, we meet to stay fit and sharp. It’s essential that we’re always ready to step in if needed.
Before guests arrive, we conduct thorough checks on all our equipment. Life jackets are inspected, kayaks are examined for any signs of wear and tear, and our boats are meticulously maintained. This routine might seem tedious, but it’s crucial. It ensures that every guest can enjoy their adventure without worry.
When our guests arrive, we begin with a safety briefing. We explain how to use the equipment, the importance of wearing life jackets. We make it a point to answer any questions and address any concerns. Our goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and confident and empowered before we set out.
Once we’re on the water, the experience truly begins. Whether we’re navigating through the serene water or paddling along the mangroves, there’s a sense of freedom and connection with nature that’s hard to describe. But as instructors, our eyes are always on our guests. We watch for signs of fatigue or discomfort and are ready to assist at a moment’s notice.
Our team works seamlessly together. Communication is key, and we’ve developed a strong sense of trust in each other. This trust is built on those non-working days when we train and push ourselves. We practice rescue drills, perfect our kayaking techniques, and work on our physical fitness. It’s demanding, but it’s what ensures that we’re always ready.
As the day ends and we head back to shore, there’s a sense of accomplishment. Seeing our guests with smiles on their faces, knowing they’ve had a safe and memorable experience, makes all the hard work worth it.
